Purpose of designing robots, whatever human being made in
this world there is a purpose behind everything, whatever we do there is a
purpose of doing that so, when we starts with robot we should be clear about
our purpose of making robot.
There should be many purpose of making robots like if you
want a hand that should help you in writing, if you want a machine to make you
coffee regularly in the morning or if you want a robot to do all your work
easy, there starts your purpose and purpose is the first step that leads a man
to do things.
So as speaking of purpose, for an engineering student
purpose for making a robot is making something for a project or making
something so he/she can win any competition in engineering life and few of
thinks that they should make something so it can help the world or I say few of
them are innovative with new ideas to make something world has never seen.
Basically in engineering college’s purpose for designing
robots are-
Making a pick and place mechanism robot.
Making a robot race bots
Making wireless robots
Obstacle avoiding robots
Metal detector robots
Line following robot
Robot with box counting
Writing an article robot
Engineering colleges lack with humanoid robot, designing
& making, there are few who can make humanoid robot rest of them are
working on 4 wheel or two wheel robots.
In this blog after giving a basic information about robotics
we will create robots which are never been created by someone and more we will
focus on Humanoid Robots.
- Robot pick & place
Pick and Place Robot,
Pick and place robot is one which picks up the object and place it where we want to place it,
Chassis should be designed in simple plate, Because of its picking mechanism there will be a lots of load on the chassis and center of gravity will shift.
Items we need to build Pick and Place robots:-
Plywood or Any Other material as mentioned before (3-5mm) 50*50 CM
Gear Motors 6
Wire ( Low resistance wire)Building a chassis is easy you can see that on video,making of arm is complicated.
Here we are making 4DOF arm Up & Down Mechanism & Grabbing Mechanism.
Up & Down Mechanism.
There are many ways to make up and down motion of arm like
- By using thread- threads can also be used for making arm up & down thread should be connected to arm and motor, directly or indirectly.
- By using a bed of teeth and a rotating gear we can make movement of arm up and down and its powerful among both the cases.
- By using gears- By using spur gear and worm gear we can make arm to move up and down.
There are advantages and disadvantages too, making these arms one case problem is substituted in another case but the other case too have some problem, for us its best to make 3nd case type arm.
We can also make a rotating arm a rotating 360' arm it will be easier to pick an object from any direction.

- Robot badminton
We have to design a robot that plays badminton that throws the shuttlecock from your robot.
- Robot war (battle bots)
Robot is
created to destroy another robot.
- Robot soccer
Robot that
plays football robot is designed to play football robot kicks the ball and make
a goal.
- Robot course
Robot has to
pass from different huddles, water, sand, stone, grease, inclination.
- Robot sprint
Robot races
with another robot, the fastest robots win the race.
- Robot billiards
Robot has to
play billiards with the stick attached to it.
- Robot Flying Disc
Robot has to
throw discs, discs are placed robot have to pick them and throw one by one.
These are competition of robots held in different colleges IIT's, NIT's & different Private Colleges, there name will be different but the work will be same.
